Greenpeacen aktivistien vangitsemisen ja vapauttamisen ansiosta maailman katseet ovat entistä suuremmassa määrin kääntyneet maapallon arktisille alueille.
Venäläinen energiayhtiö Gazprom ja Shell suunnittelevat edelleen yhteistyötä - öljynporausta herkillä arktisilla alueilla.
Tammikuussa Shellin uutena toimitusjohtajana aloittaa Ben Van Beurden. Shellillä on jo epäilyksensä arktisen porauksen kannattavuudesta.
Make a Memorable Thing
"Dear Mr. Van Beurden,
Welcome to your new job.
The eyes of the world are, perhaps more than ever, in the Arctic.
Arctic drilling is a risk and probably Shell has already noticed that in a hard way. The damage the drilling makes is economic, social and cultural not to mention the unique Arctic nature is harmed by drilling.
You have the chance to do something memorable, by ending the deal with Gazprom and stopping the Arctic drilling program. With the Shell board members and experts you are surely able to come up with a more sustainable plan for the future of Shell and the whole world."

Same in English:
Thanks to the arresting and releasing of the Greenpeace activists the eyes of the world are, more than before, turned to the Arctic areas of the world.
The Russian energy company Gazprom and Shell are still planning to co-operate - to drill in the Arctic.
In January Ben van Beurden will start his job as a new Shell CEO. Now it is possible to send him a petition in order to Shell cancel the contract with Gazprom and end the Arctic drilling program as a whole. Shell already has some doubts abouts the profitability of drilling in the Arctic.
You can send the pre-written petition from the page http://www.greenpeace.org/finland/fi/kampanjat/ilmastonmuutos/Arktis/Erota-kaksi-ahnetta-Shell--Gazprom/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=FI%20Arctic%2030%20going%20home%20(1)&utm_content=&spMailingID=44705048&spUserID=Mzk4NTE4MjUzMjIS1&spJobID=223818698&spReportId=MjIzODE4Njk4S0
On the same page you can edit the petition message and send it to van Beurden. Of course you can doubt whether anyone reads the petition texts but already the number of the comments and the volume of civic activity does affect decisions! Here is the message I sent:
